Seoul's museums

Seoul is full of fascinating museums and Bukchon is no exception. Most of the museums are well signposted at Anguk station and other major intersections, but take this map with you just in case.

The Bukchon Museum Freedom Pass costs 10,000 won and grants unlimited access to the Gahoe Museum, Hansangsu Embroidery Museum, Dong-Lim Museum, Museum of Korean Buddhist Art, and Seoul Museum of Chicken Art. It can be purchased at any one of those museums.

 

Bukchon Cultural Centre
This is the place to start when exploring this district. Its location right next to Hyundai HQ gives you a chance to peak at one of the powerhouses of the modern Korean economy at the same time.

Hanshangsoo Embroidery Museum
A collection of historic embroidery, fabrics, clothes and related folk items, including by Sangsoo Han, 'important intangible cultural asset no. 80'. Worth a visit just for the great hilltop vistas.

Seoul Museum of Chicken Art
A collection of various arts and crafts with chicken motifs from around the world.
Open - 10 am-6 pm daily, closed Monday & public holidays

Owl Museum
A collection of over 2800 owls (objects - not real) of all shapes and sizes from 80 countries. Fun for kids.
Open - 10 am-7pm (April-Sept) and 10 am-6pm (Oct-March) daily; closed Mons & Weds

World Jewellery Museum
A museum with a mission to preserve, collect and exhibit jewellery to foster cultural understanding - offering truly beautiful collections from around the world.
Open - 11 am - 6 pm, closed Mondays

Seoul Education Museum
Regularly exhibits 1,300 of the total 12,700 items in the collection relating to education in Korea.
Open - 9 am - 6 pm Mon-Fri; 9 am - 5 pm Sat-Sun; closed on public holidays and 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month

Gahoe Museum
Houses over 1,500 relics including 250 folk paintings, 750 amulets, 150 classical books, and 250 other miscellaneous folk items.
