Food and drink in Seoul

There are so many delicious - and delighfully relaxing - places to eat and drink in Seoul, particularly in Bukchon, springing up all the time we cannot possibly stay up-to-date.

We will list organic places we find, and our other favourites on the map. We may even detail some very special places here.

Everyone has their own tastes, so we encourage you to take a walk and choose a place that takes your fancy on the day.

Goongyeon
Listed as a 'best Korean restaurant' Goongyeon means 'festival of palace'. It is directed by Han Bok-Ryeo, famous for her TV appearances and for being the third successor of the Hwang hye-Seong Family (Intangible Cultural Asset No.38). It also has a lovely outdoor area.

Tanpoong Namu (Maple Tree House)
Wonderful for kids, who can play outside in the garden when they get bored. High chairs available too.

Menu - pork/beef BBQ; house specialty is vinegared mustard leaves to wrap up the pork; reasonable wine selection
English menu - no, but staff can help (or just point to the pork part you want on the back of their t-shirts!)

The Restaurant (Kukje Gallery)

Offers fantastic seasonal views over the walls of Gyeongbuk Palace and outstanding food. One of my all time favourites.

One of the best Italian-style pizza places in Seoul. Don't miss it!
